Adam, Victim 3, or Victim A was an African-American teen or young adult who was murdered by serial killer Larry Eyler in the early 1980s. He was found buried near Brad, another unidentified victim. He was nicknamed by investigators wishing to refer to him as something other than a case number or "John Doe."
Adam, nicknamed by an investigator, was found in an advanced stage of decomposition after he had been buried by Eyler, who stated he had drugged and bound the victim, performed a consented sexual act and then stabbed him to death, after picking him up as a hitchkiker.
After his murder, Eyler had decided to bury him apart from his other victims, who were white, as he believed it was improper to bury an African-American with Caucasians.
Adam was tall, around six feet tall. He wore a red and black belt inscribed with the word "devil" numerous times. The belt had a unique buckle, with the word "Jeans".
It is possible that Adam was a hitchhiker rather than a male prostitute (or both) before being murdered. Adam was most likely a Chicago or St. Louis native. Like most of Eyler's victims, he was sexually assaulted, discovered with his pants pulled down to his ankles.
According to Eyler, after an argument with his boyfriend, he drove Terre Haute, Indiana during July 10-16, 1983. While traveling through the town, he met Adam who was hitchhiking. It was revealed that Eyler paid Adam $75 to have sex with him. Eyler then drugged Adam with alcohol and an unspecified drug. After that, he took an unconscious Adam to a nearby barn, where he was bounded, blindfolded, and repeatedly stabbed to death in his upper to lower midsection. He then said to Adam, "Okay, make your peace with God, nigger."
