"Baby Andrew" was a newborn baby discovered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on February 28, 1981.
He died from exposure and a loss of blood.
In 2019, his biological parents were identified through genealogical analysis. His mother was arrested for his murder.
Case[]
The victim's mother, Theresa Bentaas, was alleged to have concealed her pregnancy and after giving birth, she abandoned him in a ditch. The defendant claimed she was unaware of her pregnancy until giving birth, and stated the belief that the infant was not breathing when she left his body. The birth was not reported out of fear; Bentaas was 19. She eventually married the baby's father in 1987 and the couple have two living children. Bentaas was later convicted and eventually paroled.
